I think that the phenomenon that grammar is often overemphasized is not only in Japan ,and also not only in English study .In China,at my age,we almost have English class from Middle Schoole ,we mainly study it for examination ,which is just writing and listening ,so we had to focus on grammer . Even though we knew that grammer can be ignored if only we can communicate with others .But nowadays children even from kindergarten,it's really a good thing ,they can be used to it ,I believe .
To be used to a language ,we should not only study it for study but also for fun .For example ,watch movies is a good way to learn language. And it also important to speak as much as you can ,and don't be afriad of making mistakes.
